A lack of sports facilities makes it impossible to train and compete. In honour of the 1st Maccabiah, the first Israeli sports stadium was constructed in Tel Aviv. The first Olympic pool in Israel was built in anticipation of the 2nd Maccabiah that took place in 1935. To this day the Maccabiah is continuing to develop a variety of sporting facilities in which athletes can train and compete, such as the skating rink established in Jerusalem for the 20th Maccabiah in 2017 in which the hockey competitions were held.
