Olympic, Paralympic and Special Olympics athletes compete side by side using the same facilities and at the same time. Beginning with the 14th Maccabiah in 1993, the Paralympic games take place as part of the Maccabiah events. Special Olympics are athletes with intellectual disabilities such as cognitive developmental disabilities or high functioning autism. Special Olympics athletes joined the 20th Maccabiah in 2017, competing in tennis and open-water swimming competitions.
