Baseball is a sport first imported to Israel as part of the Maccabiah, as early as 1981 at the 11th Maccabiah games. Forty years later, for the first time in its history, the Israeli national baseball team qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020, and in September 2021, qualified for the European championship final. The Maccabiah contributes to the increasing variety of sports in Israel, and in the current Maccabiah, sportsmen and sportswomen will compete in 42 different sports branches.
