The long-distance bicycle race is a model of excellence and stamina. Such was the case when a team of Russian Jewish cyclists rode 2500 km from St. Petersburg to Jerusalem in 1993 as part of a pre-Maccabiah event for the 14th Maccabiah. After the riders reached the Maccabiah village they continued to the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem. The number of bicycle competitions in Israel has grown over the last few years. And in the Maccabiah Games this summer, for the first time, in addition to road races and races against the clock, some of the cycling events will be held in a velodrome – an arena for track cycling. The national velodrome named for Silvan Adams is the first of its kind in Israel and was inaugurated in 2018.
